Error 20110

Flipnote Studio reached Nintendo's discontinued service instead of RexiMemo

What Error 20110 means

Error 20110 is the message Flipnote Studio shows when it reaches Nintendo's discontinued Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. If you see it while trying to open Flipnote Hatena on RexiMemo, it usually means your console did not reach RexiMemo at all. In most cases, the active Internet connection is using the wrong DNS settings, or the network is preventing the custom DNS from being used.

Check the DNS settings first

  1. From the Nintendo DSi Menu, open System Settings, then Internet, then Connection Settings.
  2. Open the connection your DSi is actually using and choose Change Settings.
  3. Go to the DNS page, set Auto-Obtain DNS to No, then open Detailed Setup.
  4. Enter RexiMemo's current DNS exactly as shown on How to Join. Save the connection when you are finished.
  5. Run the DSi connection test, then open Flipnote Studio and try Flipnote Hatena again.

Make sure you changed the same saved connection the console is currently using. Editing a different connection will not affect Flipnote Studio.

If the settings are correct but 20110 still appears

Some routers, public networks, and Internet providers can block or replace custom DNS requests. A quick way to check is to try RexiMemo from another compatible Wi-Fi network or hotspot. If Flipnote Hatena works there with the same RexiMemo setup, the original network is probably interfering with the DNS request rather than there being a problem with your RexiMemo account.

Try reximemoDNS

If your network will not reliably use RexiMemo's public DNS, reximemoDNS can run a small DNS helper on a computer connected to the same local network as your DSi. It sends the Flipnote Studio service addresses to RexiMemo while forwarding unrelated DNS lookups normally.

View reximemoDNS on GitHub for the source code and setup instructions. Windows users can also download the v1.0.0 Windows executable.

When reximemoDNS starts, follow its instructions and use the local DNS address it gives you for the DSi. The computer must stay powered on, connected to the same network, and allow the DNS program through its firewall while the DSi is using it.

Still getting 20110?

If you have checked the active connection, tried another network where possible, and 20110 still appears, join the RexiMemo Discord server for support. Tell us that you are getting Error 20110, whether the DSi connection test succeeds, which DNS method you are using, and whether the problem changes on another network.
