HD Music lets supported RexiMemo Flipnotes use the original-quality Music imported in Flipnote Editor when they are played on the website, while still keeping ordinary Flipnote-compatible audio inside the PPM for downloads and Nintendo DSi playback.
The Flipnote remains a normal PPM with its own Music track. RexiMemo stores the higher-quality imported Music separately and uses it only for browser playback when available.
Which Flipnotes support HD Music?
HD Music is created when all of the following are true:
- The Flipnote is made with RexiMemo Flipnote Editor.
- The Music track is imported from a local MP3 or WAV file.
- The Flipnote is prepared for upload and published through RexiMemo.
HD Music works regardless of the Flipnote's playback speed.
Music recorded through the browser microphone does not create an HD Music companion. Music imported from an existing RexiMemo Flipnote also continues to use the normal PPM audio path. Sound 1, Sound 2 and Sound 3 remain PPM sound effects.
What RexiMemo stores
When eligible Music is imported, Flipnote Editor keeps the original MP3/WAV source information for the selected clip. When the Flipnote is prepared for upload, RexiMemo uploads that audio separately from the encoded PPM.
The PPM still receives its own Flipnote-compatible Music track. The separate file is only a higher-quality companion for browser listening.
How HD Music plays on the website
When you open a supported Flipnote, RexiMemo begins loading and decoding the higher-quality Music in the background. Until that is ready, the player keeps the PPM audio available as its fallback.
A purple button appears in the details column above where Make spin-off! normally appears:
- While HD Music is loading, the button contains only a spinner.
- When HD Music is ready and enabled, the button says Disable HD Music.
- When HD Music is disabled, the button says Enable HD Music.
Disable HD Music
Select Disable HD Music to stop using the separate high-quality Music track. Playback switches to the Music stored inside the PPM, so you can hear the Flipnote as it sounds using its normal Flipnote audio.
Enable HD Music
Select Enable HD Music to switch the higher-quality imported Music back on. The button changes back to Disable HD Music.
The toggle affects only your current browser playback. It does not rewrite, re-encode or otherwise modify the Flipnote.
What happens to Sound 1, Sound 2 and Sound 3?
HD Music replaces only the PPM's background Music during web playback. Sound 1, Sound 2 and Sound 3 still come from the PPM and continue to trigger on their assigned pages.
What happens on a Nintendo DSi?
A Nintendo DSi does not use the separate HD Music file. It plays the Music embedded in the PPM exactly like any other Flipnote.
This also means downloaded PPM files remain self-contained. They do not require RexiMemo's HD Music companion in order to play.
What if HD Music cannot load?
The PPM is always the fallback. If the separate MP3/WAV companion cannot be downloaded or decoded by the browser, RexiMemo keeps the normal PPM audio instead of making the Flipnote silent.
Why keep both versions?
PPM audio was designed for the Nintendo DSi and uses much more limited audio storage than a modern browser. Keeping both versions gives the Flipnote a normal, portable DSi-compatible audio track while allowing RexiMemo listeners to hear the cleaner imported Music when they watch it online.
Frequently asked questions
Does HD Music work only at Speed 6?
No. HD Music is separate from the PPM's audio encoding method and works at any Flipnote playback speed.
Does disabling HD Music delete it?
No. The toggle only changes which audio version your browser is currently using for playback.
Can I download the HD Music through the Flipnote download button?
The normal Flipnote download remains the PPM. HD Music is a separate RexiMemo browser-playback companion rather than part of the PPM download.
Why do I only see the button on some Flipnotes?
The control appears only when RexiMemo has an HD Music companion for that Flipnote. Older uploads, microphone recordings and Flipnotes whose Music did not come from a local MP3/WAV will continue to use their normal PPM audio.
Does HD Music change the animation timing?
No. RexiMemo keeps the higher-quality Music aligned to the Flipnote's playback timing and speed. The animation pages and PPM itself are unchanged.
