An Unlisted Flipnote is a Flipnote that does not appear through RexiMemo's normal public discovery features, but can still be viewed by anyone who has its direct link.
Unlisted is useful when you want to share a Flipnote with specific people without publishing it normally across RexiMemo.
It is important to understand that Unlisted does not mean Private. An Unlisted Flipnote is not restricted to your account. Anyone who receives its link can open it and can share that link with somebody else.
What Unlisted means
When a Flipnote is Unlisted:
- it does not appear in normal public discovery
- it does not appear alongside your normal public Flipnotes
- it can still be opened through its direct RexiMemo URL
- anyone who has that URL can view it
- you can find it from the Unlisted section of your own Creator's Room
- you can optionally allow a DSi jump code for it
Think of Unlisted as link-only sharing, rather than private storage.
If the Flipnote should only be accessible to you, use Private instead.
Creating an Unlisted Flipnote on the website
Sign in to RexiMemo and open Upload a Flipnote.
Under the visibility setting, choose Unlisted.
Once Unlisted is selected, RexiMemo also shows:
Allow this Unlisted Flipnote's DSi jump code
Choose whether you want that option enabled, then finish preparing the rest of the upload.
You can set things such as:
- title
- description
- Channel
- visibility
- Premiere settings, if applicable
When you're ready to send the actual Flipnote from your DSi, turn on the waiting mode on the Upload page.
While RexiMemo is waiting:
- Open Flipnote Studio on your DSi.
- Open your RexiMemo Creator's Room.
- Choose Post.
- Select the Flipnote you want to send.
RexiMemo will receive the PPM from your DSi and use the publishing settings you prepared on the website, including the Unlisted visibility.
Posting directly to Unlisted Flips from DSi
You can also create an Unlisted Flipnote without preparing the upload on the website first.
Open your own Creator's Room on DSi and choose Unlisted Flips.
This opens your Unlisted Flipnote library using the normal Flipnote browsing interface.
Choose Post from there to send a Flipnote directly into your Unlisted library.
This is separate from the normal Creator's Room Post button used by the web-assisted upload flow.
If you already know that you simply want the Flipnote to be Unlisted and do not need the website's additional publishing controls, posting directly from Unlisted Flips is the quickest option.
Finding your Unlisted Flipnotes
On the website, open your own Creator's Room and choose the Unlisted tab.
This section contains your Unlisted Flipnotes separately from your normal public uploads.
On DSi, open your own Creator's Room and choose Unlisted Flips.
Both views are intended to give you access to Flipnotes that would otherwise be difficult to find because they do not appear through normal discovery.
Other users do not receive an Unlisted library tab for your Creator's Room. They access an Unlisted Flipnote through its direct link instead.
Sharing an Unlisted Flipnote
To share an Unlisted Flipnote, send somebody its direct RexiMemo link.
Anyone with that link can open the Flipnote.
There is no approval request and the viewer does not need to be added to a special access list.
Because of this, you should treat an Unlisted link as something that can be forwarded.
If you send the link to one person, RexiMemo cannot prevent that person from sending it to somebody else.
If a Flipnote contains something that should only ever be visible to your own account, Unlisted is not the right setting.
Unlisted is not Private
The difference is simple:
Unlisted: anyone with the direct link can view the Flipnote.
Private: only you can view the Flipnote while signed in to your account.
Unlisted is designed for controlled sharing and reduced discovery.
Private is designed for owner-only access.
Changing a Flipnote to Unlisted should never be treated as a security boundary for sensitive content.
DSi jump codes
Unlisted Flipnotes have an additional setting for DSi access:
Allow this Unlisted Flipnote's DSi jump code
This setting is optional.
If it is enabled, the Flipnote can be opened through its DSi jump code where RexiMemo supports that navigation.
If it is disabled, the Unlisted Flipnote does not get that additional jump-code access path.
The setting only appears when Unlisted is selected.
This gives you a little more control over how easily an Unlisted Flipnote can be reached from the DSi side.
Does a jump code make the Flipnote public?
No.
Allowing a DSi jump code does not change the Flipnote from Unlisted to Public.
It remains outside normal discovery.
However, just like a direct web link, a usable jump code is another way somebody can reach the Flipnote. Only enable it if you are comfortable with people who receive that code being able to open the Flipnote.
Can Unlisted Flipnotes appear in discovery?
They are intended to stay out of normal discovery surfaces.
Someone should normally need the direct link, an allowed jump-code route, or owner access through your own Unlisted library to reach one.
If you want the Flipnote to be discoverable normally around RexiMemo, change its visibility to Public.
Can I send somebody an Unlisted link if they are not signed in?
An Unlisted Flipnote is link-accessible rather than account-restricted.
The important part is possession of the direct link, not whether the viewer has been individually authorised by you.
Do not use Unlisted for something that relies on a specific list of approved viewers.
Changing an existing Flipnote to Unlisted
If RexiMemo offers the visibility controls for one of your Flipnotes, you can change its visibility to Unlisted.
Once it is Unlisted, it is removed from normal discovery while remaining accessible through its direct URL.
If you later make it Public again, it returns to normal public visibility.
If you make it Private, direct-link access is no longer the intended access model and the Flipnote becomes owner-only.
What happens to the direct link if I change visibility?
The Flipnote keeps its RexiMemo identity rather than becoming a completely different upload simply because its visibility changes.
What changes is who is allowed to reach it and where RexiMemo shows it.
- Public: normal public access and discovery
- Unlisted: direct-link access without normal discovery
- Private: owner-only access
Uploading on DSi has changed
Normal uploading from your Creator's Room does not work exactly the way it used to.
To upload a Flipnote now, use one of the supported publishing paths:
- open a Channel on DSi and choose Post to publish directly to that Channel
- use reximemo.net to prepare the upload, then send the Flipnote through your Creator's Room while the website is waiting
- open Unlisted Flips in your own Creator's Room and choose Post to upload directly as Unlisted
- open Private Flips and choose Post when you specifically want a Private Flipnote
The normal Creator's Room Post button is reserved for the web-assisted upload flow and only appears while RexiMemo is actively waiting for a Flipnote.
What if I upload a Flipnote that already exists?
If the Flipnote is already present on RexiMemo, the website will tell you that the Flipnote already exists instead of creating another copy.
If that Flipnote previously existed but was deleted, uploading it again restores the existing Flipnote record and makes it Public again.
That restoration behaviour is separate from creating a new Unlisted upload, so if you are restoring a previously deleted Flipnote, check its visibility afterward before sharing it.
When should I use Unlisted?
Unlisted works well for things such as:
- sharing a Flipnote with friends before publishing it normally
- sending somebody a Flipnote without putting it into discovery
- linking a Flipnote from another community or conversation
- keeping older or experimental work accessible without featuring it publicly
- sharing something through a direct URL or optional DSi jump code
It is not suitable for content that must remain confidential.
Unlisted checklist
Before posting an Unlisted Flipnote, check that:
- Unlisted is selected as the visibility
- you understand that anyone with the direct link can view it
- the title and description are correct
- the correct Channel or publishing settings are selected where applicable
- the DSi jump-code option is set the way you want
- you are sending the correct Flipnote from Flipnote Studio
After publishing, you can find the Flipnote again from Unlisted in your Creator's Room on the website or Unlisted Flips on DSi.
