What is Flipnote World?

A guide to Flipnote World's documentation, forum, projects and Git area, and how it connects to RexiMemo.

Flipnote World is a separate website for people who want to learn about Flipnote Studio, share research and work on tools. RexiMemo is where you watch and post Flipnotes; Flipnote World is where you can look up how the software works and talk with others building things around it.

What is on the site?

Documentation covers Flipnote Studio files, animation and audio formats, the DSi application, online features and related research. Start at the documentation index and follow the sections that interest you. The pages cite their sources and distinguish established behavior from findings that still need checking. Some sensitive research pages require staff approval or a one-time access code.

The forum is for questions, findings, project updates and discussions. You can attach images, audio and Flipnote files to a post. If you have a PPM or a RexiMemo watch link, you can also embed a player so people can see what you mean without leaving the discussion.

Projects lists community tools and research projects. It includes software for playing, converting and studying Flipnotes as well as server projects. You can suggest a project through the Projects page; suggestions are reviewed before they appear publicly.

Git is the site's code hosting area. It supports repositories and the usual work around them, including issues and pull requests. If you already have work on GitHub or GitLab, you can import a repository rather than starting it again from scratch. Git is useful if you want to share code, propose a fix or keep a public record of a project.

Signing in

You can make a Flipnote World account, or choose Log in with RexiMemo. The latter uses your RexiMemo sign-in to create or connect a World account. Flipnote World receives your RexiMemo account identifier, username and staff status; your RexiMemo password is not passed to it. If you have not chosen a separate World profile picture, the site can use your public RexiMemo picture.

The accounts remain separate. Your RexiMemo Flipnotes, stars and settings do not move to Flipnote World when you connect them. You can manage the link in Flipnote World settings. To unlink it, set a World password first so that you still have a way to sign in.

Contributing to the documentation

If you find an error or have a result worth adding, submit a change through the documentation area. Staff review submissions before they are published. Give the source for a technical claim where you can: a file offset, a test on hardware, a code reference or a reliable published document helps the next person verify it.

You do not need to be a developer to help. Clear screenshots, careful comparisons between software versions, corrections to instructions and useful questions in the forum all help. Please avoid sharing passwords, private keys, other people's account details or material you do not have permission to publish.

How is it related to RexiMemo?

RexiMemo and Flipnote World are run as connected projects, but they have different jobs. RexiMemo's Support Center helps you use the sharing service. Flipnote World's documentation is for the underlying software and technical research. A World account can be linked to your RexiMemo account, and you can use RexiMemo Flipnote links in forum posts, but publishing a forum post does not upload a Flipnote to RexiMemo.

If you need help with your RexiMemo account, a DSi connection or an upload, use the RexiMemo Support Center. For documentation questions or a project discussion, visit Flipnote World.
