RexiMemo Open Source Edition (OSE) is the public, self-hostable edition of RexiMemo. Its source code is published on GitHub under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3 (AGPLv3).
The live production service contains production-only security, privacy, identity, moderation, operations, migration, community and integration systems that are not published in OSE. Credentials, private keys, production data and private deployment logic are not part of the public repository.
What OSE includes
OSE keeps a deliberately smaller version of the core Flipnote Hatena-style experience: the legacy proxy-style DSi connection model, SQLite storage, Flipnote browsing and posting, Creator's Rooms, stars, downloads, web text comments and one-frame mini Flipnote comments. It is intended to be easier to inspect, learn from, modify and self-host.
What is different from production RexiMemo?
The production service at reximemo.net is not fully open source. OSE does not include RexiMemo's production NAS/DNS/authentication gateway, production session and device systems, FSID proof/linking machinery, private moderation and operations tooling, Discord integration, support infrastructure, production migration systems, credentials, private keys or production data-handling machinery.
Because OSE intentionally omits hardened production systems, its remaining account, authentication and moderation mechanisms are simpler. Do not assume a fresh OSE checkout has the same security properties as the live RexiMemo service.
Can I run or modify it?
Yes. OSE is provided for people who want to inspect the code, experiment, learn, contribute or run their own compatible instance. Follow the repository README and licence requirements, and review the security limitations before exposing an instance to untrusted users.
Does this mean all of RexiMemo is open source?
No. The accurate description is that RexiMemo has an open-source edition. RexiMemo OSE is public under AGPLv3, while the live production service and its production-only systems are not fully open source. Third-party software used by either edition remains subject to its own licence and copyright terms.
