The built-in Sensitive 16+ channel is for Flipnotes that are allowed on RexiMemo but contain mature or distressing themes. The same site-wide rules apply here.
You must be signed in with a Date of Birth showing that you are 16 or older to browse, watch or post to Sensitive 16+. RexiMemo's overall minimum age is 13.
Self-harm, death, injury and suicide
This applies everywhere on RexiMemo, including Sensitive 16+. It covers realistic imagery and fictional, drawn, animated, stylised or non-graphic depictions.
A content warning, an age restriction or putting a Flipnote in Sensitive 16+ does not count as censorship.
What counts as censorship?
The harmful act and its visible result must be fully obscured or omitted in every relevant frame, including the thumbnail and other previews. Covering a small part while leaving the injury or other prohibited harm visible is not enough. Blur or pixelation is insufficient if viewers can still make out the prohibited harm.
The censorship must be part of the uploaded Flipnote. Switching off a layer that somebody can turn back on does not count. Check the whole animation and its thumbnail before posting, rather than just the opening frame.
What may be allowed in Sensitive 16+?
- Non-graphic discussion of self-harm, death, injury or suicide, without showing the harm or giving instructions or methods.
- Effectively censored depictions of those subjects, provided the rest of the Flipnote follows the Terms.
- Disturbing stories, violence, horror or medical themes that do not show uncensored harm or other prohibited material.
- Contextual depictions of hard-drug addiction or dependency that do not promote, encourage or explain drug use; alcohol-related content; and tobacco-use promotion.
- Other otherwise-permitted mature or distressing themes that staff determine should be age-restricted.
Discussions of recovery, bereavement or abuse are not automatically prohibited. Staff consider the complete Flipnote, including its text, sound, presentation and context.
What stays prohibited even if imagery is censored?
Censorship does not make encouragement, promotion, glorification or instructions for suicide or self-harm acceptable. Pornography, sexually explicit material, sexual exploitation of children, grooming or sexual solicitation of users, and prohibited gore or medical distress remain prohibited. The same applies to promoting or giving instructions for harder drugs, and to any other breach of the Terms of Use. Text, sound and linked material count too.
Why this channel does not appear in Browse
Sensitive 16+ Flipnotes are excluded from normal Flipnotes discovery on the website and DSi, including the general Popular, Hot, Latest and Most starred listings. Eligible users can open the channel from the Channels area. Direct links are subject to the same age restriction.
Setting your Date of Birth
Open Settings → Date of Birth on the website. Your Date of Birth is private and is used to determine whether you meet the age requirement. You must provide your real Date of Birth.
If the date on your account is incorrect or you need help with age-restricted access, contact RexiMemo support. Do not enter false information or create another account to get around an age restriction.
The same age requirement applies on the website and in Flipnote Studio.
Posting, moderation and existing uploads
Creators must meet the age requirement to post or move their own Flipnotes into Sensitive 16+. Staff may move otherwise-permitted material into the channel; that classification alone is not automatically a warning or account penalty. A Flipnote that breaks the Terms may instead be hidden or removed.
The explicit censorship requirement was added on 25 October 2026. Earlier guidance allowed some non-graphic self-harm and injury depictions. Staff may hide existing uploads that no longer comply and ask for a censored revision. Rules that already prohibited exploitation, graphic gore, encouragement of harm or repeated violent uploads still apply.
Use the normal report tools if you believe a Flipnote breaks the rules. See Understanding RexiMemo's content rules and the Terms of Use for the full rules.
